In 2011, after a long day working at my part-time retail job in Derby, I was browsing the Internet when I read an article on a tuition website about private tuition. I realised that this was something I could have a go at as I had the experience and the qualifications in place. The article gave me the inspiration to start my business and that was how Charlotte Johnson’s Tuition was born.

Prior to creating Charlotte Johnson’s Tuition, I had built up a range of experience by:

• Completing trainee teacher placements in four different primary schools in Derbyshire.
• Volunteering as Circus Skills Workshop Leader for six weeks in three different Derby based primary schools.
• Working as a Kumon Study Centre Assistant in Derbyshire.
• Working as a play scheme leader for the local Derby b-active scheme.

The qualifications I had at the time of creating the business was:

• 9 GCSE’s B-C including English Grade B, Maths Grade C and Science grade C.
• AVCE Health and Social Care (Double Award) grade AB
• Primary Education (B.Ed Honours) graded Pass.
• Education Studies (BA Honours) graded 2:2.
• Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (Level 4 Award) graded Pass.

During the first two years of Charlotte Johnson’s Tuition in Derby, I worked with a wide range of students; this included students studying for their GCSE’s, students studying for their PhD and students within the Primary/Secondary sector.

After a move to Ipswich in 2013,  the business carried on as normal but on a smaller scale up until 2015. When demand became too great, I left my full time customer facing role to focus on Charlotte Johnson’s Tuition full time and to carry out volunteering to expand my professional development.

The current goal for the business is to keep the Facebook page content updated and to provide helpful tips to parents who may have no idea about SATs or the Eleven Plus exams.
